Restoration after Betrayal - Anna's Story

After losing both of her parents to HIV/AIDS, Anna’s Auntie promised to take her to school and give her a better life. Anna traveled with her Auntie from her home village in Zirobwe (in the Luwero District, Central Uganda), to the city center of Kampala.

A broken promise…

Shortly after arrival in Kampala, her Auntie’s promise of education and better life was nowhere to be found. Anna was forced to turn a profit in her Auntie’s bar by entertaining the customers in demoralizing ways.

Hope on the horizon…

At 18, she was enrolled into the 10,000 Lights Women’s Centre Empowerment Program. She trained to be a hairdresser and attended counseling sessions. Equipped with tools for healing and tangible skills, she was able rebuild her self-esteem, and her hope was restored.

Anna is grateful to the 10,000 Lights community for restoring her hope.

Sharing the light...

Anna is grateful to the 10,000 Lights community for restoring her hope. Anna’s wish is that her experience in the Empowerment Program will be extended to other girls and women who are facing the same realities of betrayal and exploitation that she experienced.
